What is Zhu Scalp Acupuncture?
Zhu's scalp needle was developed by internationally renowned acupuncturist Professor Zhu Mingqing. Fine needles are inserted in the scalp to stimulate the brain, regulate blood, and reactivate parts of the body。
Is scalp acupuncture safe?
Many people ask if inserting needles into the scalp will harm the brain--no, in fact, scalp acupuncture only affects the very surface of the head. The scalp has five layers structural layers, from outside to inside: the epidermis, subcutaneous tissue, cap-shaped aponeurosis, aponeurosis and periosteum. Scalp acupuncture is mainly in the aponeurosis. The brain is safely protected under the skull's thick layer of bone, which acupuncture needles cannot harm.
Why focus acupuncture on the scalp region?
Chinese medical theory says that "The head is place of the sun," "the twelve meridians and internal organs of the essence all touch on the head." The meridians that run though the body converge on the head and the scalp acupuncture region, and thus is a potent site for healing the body.
What is the treatment involved in Zhu Scalp Acupuncture? Acupuncture + DaoYin
Zhu's scalp acupuncture treatment emphasizes five aspects of treatment: needle, intention, Qi, DaoYin, result. The core of our philosophy is for patients to understand the treatment process and feel empowered to walk the road to recovery with guidance from our doctors. In the clinic, our doctors will perform acupuncture and demonstrate the DaoYin movements that can help a patient restore speech, movement, and mobility. We want family members to be an active participant in this process as well, helping encourage the patient and guiding their exercises at home.
What is DaoYin?
DaoYin is physical therapy that guides Qi and loosens tension in the body. We personalize treatment for each patient according to their individual needs and diseases, and a doctor will be at a patient's side guiding them through their treatment, whether it be for walking, mobility, or speech.
Who is not suitable for Zhu Scalp acupuncture treatment?
Because infants below the age of about 1 year and a half (18 months) do not have fully-closed bone structures in the skull, needling is not recommended (but may be done carefully and in certain conditions). Scalp acupuncture for children 2 years and older is quite safe.
In addition, patients who have had operations which temporarily removed a part of their skull, or have a drainage tube inserted, should inform doctors and treatment can continue around the affected areas.
Zhu Mingqing scalp acupuncture uses fine needles (0.20 mm) for low pain and safety, and is suitable for a wide range of ages, from small children to the elderly.
